A common argument I often hear, especially from Muslims, is that we believe in the same god. That God in the Bible is the same god that's in the Quran. I have also heard this argument from other Christians; and some of the people who see themselves as spiritual wants to take it one step further, by saying that every god, in every religion, is a pathway to the same truth.
But let's take one step back and look at the "God is Allah"-argument.
The problem with this argument is the fact that for it to work, one has to ignore both what is written in the Bible and the Quran. While they might have some agreement's, the differences are fundamental and cannot be ignored.
When I came to know the truth it was not because someone debated with me, it was not because someone convinced me that what they where saying was the truth. It was simply because this man told me the truth and by the grace of God I knew it to be the truth; I was presented with the Gospel of Jesus Christ and the deepest part of my heart that was longing for something it couldn't explain, found it's missing piece.
The Gospel of Jesus Christ tells us that God so loved the world, that he gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believe in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life (John 3:16). In Matthew 3:17, when Jesus is getting baptized, a voice could be heard from the heaven saying "This is my son". And in Proverbs 30:4 we read:
Who has ascended into heaven and descended? Who has gathered the wind in His fists? Who has bound the waters in His garment? Who has established all the ends of the earth? What is His name, and what is His Son’s name? Certainly you know!"
There is no doubt, according to the Bible, that Jesus Christ is the Son of God. In 1 John 2:23 we read that no one who denies the Son has the Father; but whoever acknowledge the Son has the Father also. Their relationship is inseparable.
But according to the Quran Allah has no son. Chapter 112, verse 1-4 of the Quran says: "Say, 'He is Allah, One, Allah, the Eternal Refuge. He neither begets nor is born, nor is there to Him any equivalent.'", and chapter 23, verse 91 says: "Allah has never had any offspring, nor is there any god besides Him.".
The Gospel of Jesus Christ tells us that He payed the price for our sins; He was whipped for our transgressions and bruised for our iniquities, by His stripes we are healed (Isaiah 53:5). We have all sinned and the the wages of sin is death; but as Romans 5:8 states: “But God clearly shows and proves His own love for us, by the fact that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.". Jesus Christ gave His life as payment for what you and I deserve; and by grace we are forgiven through faith.
“[9] because if you acknowledge and confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. [10] For with the heart a person believes resulting in his justification; and with the mouth he acknowledges and confesses, resulting in and confirming salvation. ”
Romans 10:9-10
On the cross Jesus said "It is finished" (John 19:30). But according to the Quran Jesus was never crucified; he never finished anything.
And [for] their saying, Indeed, we have killed the Messiah, Jesus the son of Mary, the messenger of Allāh. And they did not kill him, nor did they crucify him; but [another] was made to resemble him to them. And indeed, those who differ over it are in doubt about it. They have no knowledge of it except the following of assumption. And they did not kill him, for certain.
Quran 4:157
To say that we believe in the same god, is to say that God is a liar; it's to say the Son is a liar and it's to say Allah is a liar.
As I said in the beginning of this post, the Bible and the Quran has some agreement's; one of those is the fact none of the books record Jesus do anything wrong; he never lies, steals or sin in any way, He forfills God's law when no one is able to, except God himself.
God bless you, my friend!
